On Thursday, January 25, 2024, at approximately 11:07 P.M., Detective Victor Gonzalez conducted a motor vehicle stop for a vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign on Oak Lane. While Detective Gonzalez was speaking with the driver, he observed several indicators of someone who may be under the influence of alcohol. Detective Gonzalez had the driver, a 34 year old male from Summit, NJ, step out of the vehicle so that he could conduct field sobriety tests to determine if he was safe to operate a motor vehicle. Upon completion of the field sobriety tests, Detective Gonzalez concluded that the driver was unable to operate a motor vehicle safely and placed him under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Once in headquarters, the driver refused to provide samples of his breath for testing. He was issued summonses for failure to stop at a stop sign, driving under the influence and refusal to submit breath samples. These charges are merely allegations, and the driver is presumed innocent until he is found guilty in a court of law.
