On May 7, 2026 at approximately 5:00 P.M., Essex Fells Police dispatch alerted officers to a felony vehicle that had entered town and was wanted out of Florham Park in connection to a robbery that had occurred the day prior. Detective Berger located the vehicle traveling northbound on Roseland Ave. The vehicle turned onto Bloomfield Ave. and Detective Berger conducted a felony motor vehicle stop with the assistance of Sgt. Murphy and officers from Caldwell, North Caldwell, Roseland and Verona Police Departments. The driver, later identified as a 20-year-old male from Baltimore MD, provided Detective Berger with a fraudulent NJ driver’s license and fake name. He was placed under arrest by Detective Berger and transported back to police headquarters. While at police headquarters, it was learned that the driver had an active NCIC warrant out of the Stafford Sheriff’s Office in Stafford, Virginia with full extradition. He was processed and charged with providing a false government document, hindering apprehension and being a fugitive from justice. After being processed, he was remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility pending a future court date. These charges are merely allegations and he is presumed innocent until he is found guilty in a court of law. Thank you to all the assisting agencies.
