DWI Arrest

On April 22, 2026, at approximately 8:42 P.M., Ofc. Chiuchiolo observed a vehicle on Forest Way with an equipment violation.  The vehicle then turned without signaling.  A motor vehicle stop was conducted and the driver was identified as a 44-year-old male from Essex Fells, NJ.  Ofc. Chiuchiolo observed several indicators of someone who may be under the influence of alcohol and asked the driver to step out of the vehicle so that he could perform field sobriety tests.  After the tests were completed, Ofc. Chiuchiolo determined that the driver was unable to safely operate a motor vehicle and placed him under arrest.  Once in headquarters, the driver refused to provide breath samples for the purpose of testing.  He was issued several motor vehicle summonses which included driving under the influence and refusal to submit breath samples.  These charges are merely allegations and the driver is presumed innocent until he is found guilty in a court of law.
