On Wednesday, February 2, 2022, Detective Jonathan Berger conducted a motor vehicle stop for use of a hand-held wireless telephone and failure to wear a seatbelt on Eagle Rock Avenue. Due to the officers' training and experience he had the male driver of West Orange, 53, step out of the vehicle to conduct several field sobriety tests to determine whether he was able to operate a motor vehicle safely. Detective Berger came to the conclusion the driver was unable to operate the vehicle safely and he was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Once back at headquarters the drivers blood alcohol content was determined to be two times above the legal limit. The driver was released without incident and was issued four motor vehicle summonses. These charges are merely allegations and the driver is presumed innocent until he is found guilty in a court of law.
