On Friday, June 14, 2024, at approximately 9:00 P.M., Officer Marta and Officer Ficchi conducted a motor vehicle stop for a vehicle that had illegally passed several other vehicles on Roseland Ave. While the officers were speaking with the driver, they observed several indicators of someone who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Officer Marta had the driver, a 21 year old male from Wayne, NJ, step out of the vehicle so that he could perform several field sobriety tests to determine if he was safe to operate a motor vehicle. Upon completion of the tests, it was determined that the driver was unable to operate a motor vehicle safely and he was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Once in headquarters, the driver refused to provide samples of his breath for testing. He was issued several motor vehicles summonses including driving under the influence and refusal to submit breath samples. These charges are merely allegations and the driver is presumed innocent until he is found guilty in a court of law.
