On May 13, 2025, at approximately 10:01P.M., our police department received a complaint from a motorist that a vehicle traveling northbound on Roseland Avenue was failing to maintain their lane.   Officer Ficchi observed the vehicle in question and began to follow.  Officer Ficchi conducted a motor vehicle stop on Roseland Avenue at Forest Way for failing to keep right.  While Officer Ficchi was speaking with the driver, he observed several indicators of someone who may be under the influence of alcohol.  Officer Ficchi had the driver, a 68-year-old male from West Caldwell, NJ, step out of the vehicle so that he could perform field sobriety tests to determine if he was safe to operate a motor vehicle.  Upon completion of the tests, it was determined that the driver was unable to operate a motor vehicle safely and he was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence.  Once in headquarters, the driver submitted breath samples for the purpose of testing.  It is alleged that the drivers’ blood alcohol concentration was above the legal limit.  He was issued several motor vehicle summonses in addition to driving under the influence.  These charges are merely allegations, and the driver is presumed innocent until he is found guilty in a court of law.
