E-Bikes have become a common mode of transportation throughout the borough and their use can create some safety concerns for riders, vehicles, and pedestrians. The Essex Fells Police Department encourages everyone to be cautious around e-bikes or while operating e-bikes. Â
Please reference the above information sheet on State laws regarding e-bikes to help riders better understand the rules on their use.Â
The Essex Fells Police Department would like to remind e-bike riders that they should be following the same rules of the road as vehicles. Some rules of important note include:
E-bike riders under the age of 17 are required to wear a helmet
E-bikes should ride with the flow of traffic
E-bikes should ride single file to the far right side of the roadway
E-bikes should not be operated on sidewalks or in county parks
E-bikes are a convenient mode of transportation, but riders should be cautious when operating them for both their safety and the safety of others. The Essex Fells Police Department reminds everyone to share the road and follow applicable laws for safe commutes.
